The Sultan fish (also called Mad Barb), Leptobarbus hoevenii, is a fish species native to northern Malaysia, Thailand, and Borneo. It is a primarily freshwater fish. It may reach up to about 60 centimetres (24 in) long. This fish is omnivorous and is a midwater to near bottom dweller. This fish lives in groups.[1]
The Sultan fish is a common feature on the menu of many local Chinese restaurants as it makes for good eating. This fish is prized highly in Cambodia and Vietnam. However, eating its flesh may cause nausea.[1]
